Frequently asked
What are the different types of AI support out there?
AI support is still new and changing, so the market is a bit of a mix. Broadly there are three kinds. There are technical builders who can vibe-code and stand up local tools to solve a specific problem. There's education and training, which lifts how your team uses the tools day to day. And there's the middle ground - someone who can do the technical build, understand what actually matters for your business, and build it in a way that gets adopted and drives a real outcome. In larger organisations that middle role gets called a full-stack engineer. Plain Logic is a scaled-down version of that for small businesses, and it's the most valuable place to sit, because a build only pays off if it solves the right problem and people actually use it.
What's the difference between AI strategy and implementation?
Strategy is working out what your business should actually do - which problems are worth solving and where AI pays. Implementation is building it. Plenty of consultants offer both, but the hard part is finding someone who genuinely understands how a business could run better operationally and has the technical capability to build it. That’s what we aim for at Plain Logic: knowing which problems are the right ones to solve, then building for them.
What is an AI readiness assessment?
It's a read on how ready your business is to get real value from AI, beyond individual productivity. At a basic level, tools like Claude, ChatGPT or Autohive help anyone be more productive on their own work. Lifting productivity across the whole organisation needs foundations: a clear source of truth that lives in the cloud, data your AI tools can actually reach, documented processes, and a team that's willing and able to change how it works. That last part - change management - is a big piece of it. The assessment looks at where you sit on each of those, so you know what's worth doing now and what needs to come first.
What is The Service Business AI Gameplan?
A fixed-price engagement for New Zealand service businesses. We map how your business actually operates, rank every AI opportunity by value and risk, and build your first AI tool live and in use before we finish. Three to six weeks, and at the end you decide whether to go further.
How can AI help my New Zealand service business?
It depends on how your business actually runs, which is why the Gameplan maps that before recommending anything. In most service businesses the value sits in the work that carries the most load: client onboarding, research and analysis, document production, and the admin wrapped around billable work. The ranked list tells you which of those is worth doing first, and what each is worth.
How long does an engagement take?
The Service Business AI Gameplan runs three phases: Understand (2–4 weeks), Analyse (1–2 weeks), and Decide (one session). Three to six weeks in total depending on the size of your business, at a fixed price agreed before we start. At the Decide session you choose whether to proceed, adjust, or pause.
Is hourly work or work outside the Gameplan available?
Yes. The Gameplan is the main offer and it's a fixed price, but we also do hourly work for implementation that sits outside a fixed engagement. What we tend not to do is a one-off build with no context, because we want to be sure we're solving the right problem first - that's the difference between a tool that pays off and one nobody uses. If you're not sure which fits, the first fifteen-minute call is free and we'll work out the right shape.
Does Plain Logic only work with service businesses?
No. Service businesses are where the work is most consistent, and the Gameplan is built for them, but we've worked successfully with businesses in construction and health too. The common thread is businesses providing a service. We're always open to a conversation about whether Plain Logic is the right fit - we really like supporting NZ businesses.
What industries do you work with?
Plain Logic works with service businesses in New Zealand: health, finance, accounting, consulting, advisory, and other professional services. The Gameplan is proven across 10+ service businesses in these sectors.
What sort of return should I expect?
Across clients, the return usually isn't a cost cut. It's growth. More consistent service, faster decisions, and quicker outcomes for your clients, which means the team can take on more work and spend their time on the more valuable parts of it. That's been the consistent pattern - capacity and quality going up, rather than headcount coming down.
