When I first sit down with a client, I'm there to listen.
I want to hear about the problems you're running into in your own words. While we talk, I'm taking a step back to look at the situation from a systems perspective. I'm constantly asking myself: Is the problem we've identified the one we actually need to solve?
As an outsider, it is easier for me to ask the coaching questions that uncover where the friction really is. Sometimes the cause of a bottleneck isn't a technical failure. It's often a human one.
Beyond the Technical Hurdle
I recently worked with a client where we looked at why a specific process was stalling. Initially, it looked like a data problem. But as we talked, we realised the hold-up was happening because the current process felt overwhelming for their customers. The clients weren't stuck because they lacked information. They were stuck because the task seemed daunting and they would get distracted.
Because we identified that the root cause was a lack of confidence, I didn't just build a database. I focused on a seamless portal approach designed to give those customers clarity and ease. By making the process feel "easy," we solved the bottleneck.
Meeting the Team Where They Are
AI is a sensitive topic. People have different perceptions of it, and some are naturally wary. When I introduce myself to a new team, I like to remind them that this is a technological evolution, not a total departure from reality.
I tell them that there is really nothing new under the sun. We've seen these shifts before with the arrival of the internet, email, and various waves of automation. Each of those things fundamentally changed how we work, but the world didn't end. By focusing on how a tool impacts the business specifically, rather than getting caught up in "what ifs" beyond our control, we can take the anxiety out of the room.
Practicality Over Novelty
I have no interest in pushing technology for the sake of it. If you don't need a custom AI tool, I won't suggest one.
I'll be the first to tell you if a simple Google Form or a basic process tweak will work better than a complex build. My goal is to provide value. If we can optimise your workflow through common sense and better organisation, that is the path we should take.
Build Mode
Once we decide on a direction, I move into "build mode." I don't want to spend weeks on over-engineered solutions that don't move the needle. I want to solve the problems that actually free up your time.
I am able to pivot quickly because I stay focused on one question: What problem are we really trying to solve here?
Nothing is more satisfying to me than delivering a working, economical, and safe solution to a major pain point. I'll always work with you to iterate and refine the result to make sure it truly meets the needs of your people.
The days go quickly when you're solving real problems.
